August&June was born in late 2010 out of Rowena’s love of fabric, a desire to create beautiful things, and the need to escape the daily grind and do something just for her! Rowena started sewing dresses and skirts for her daughter (Izzy – 4) and shorts for her son (Max – 6), just because I could! Soon I was sewing for family and friends, and after a successful day at a local community market I decided to start a Facebook page and sell online.
For Rowena sewing is a tremendously rewarding hobby, and she fits it in around my family. Although Rowena don’t claim to be a professionally trained seamstress, although after studying Textiles and Design at school, and lots of practice over the past couple of years she has learned to make her own patterns and tailor them to the needs of her customers. Rowena says” I like to think I have an eye for detail, and I am a bit of a perfectionist too.”
“I am inspired by colour, texture, flowers, and anything pretty and pink (or green). I’m happiest sitting at my (clean and tidy – I’m a neat freak) sewing table, playing with gorgeous fabrics, the sweet lingering aroma from a candle (Ecoya Midnight Orchid at the moment), and a piece (okay the whole block) of chocolate not to far away… ”
Rowena has worked hard to create something special with August&June. The fabrics are all totally delicious and the styles are perfect for little people. A true credit to Rowena and all her hard work at August&June.
