Gigglberry Creations, is home of the great decorating gadget of fabric flag banners. I love these banners as it is an inexpensive way to make a great impact in a room and the choices are endless, as you will discover when you visit Amy’s store.
You can also read about all things Giggleberry on the BLOG, so go say hi! Pssst she also mentions a give away for some gorgeous gorgeous fabric on another blog you might just want to see!
Recently I caught up with Amy of Giggleberry Creations and here is what she had to say:
What inspired you to start your business?
When I was at the final two weeks of my pregnancy I had started maternity leave and wanted something to keep me busy as I’m not good at sitting still… so I started to think of fun ways to decorate my daughters room without having the time to do anything major. My mum had made a cot quilt ready for when bub arrived so I asked for all the left over fabric and began sewing… before I knew it I had made Giggleberry’s first ever set of flags!!
I hung them straight away and loved how they looked so made some for all my nieces and nephews. I then had friends and extended family asking for sets so after I came home with my new baby girl, who slept so well from three weeks old that I had lots of free time in the day, I did some market researching and found Etsy. I love having the flexibility this business gives me to work and play!!
What was your first sale?
The very first day I listed on Etsy (I started with 3 sets only) I had a custom order placed!! I was still so new to the site I had to ask the customer how to set up a custom listing LOL!!! Lucky for me the buyer was amazingly helpful and friendly and had been looking for flags just like mine for her market stall, so by the end of that week I had finished her order and had it off in the mail!
What do you hope to achieve in 2009?
Hmmmmmm….. this year has many things planned for my family and I starting with a bubby due in late February!!
Business wise I have just started my second wholesale contract with an online children’s boutique and can’t wait to see how it goes. I have also just introduced a new line of fun and bright cushion covers to the Giggleberry range for the new year so I see my self and my sewing machine spending allot of time together….
What was the last handmade item you brought?
I strongly stood by my Buy Handmade Pledge for my Christmas shopping and bought so many wonderful things for my daughters and family but the most recent item was a decal that I have stuck on my sewing machine cover… it’s of a cartoon girl wearing glasses with the words ‘Crafty Geek’ underneath her…. it gives e a giggle when I set up or pack away my sewing machine for the day!
What item couldn’t you live without?
oohhhhhh good question! I had to think about this one…. but the item that just kept popping back into my mind was my boomerang pillow – you know the one that is shaped like an ‘L’. I LOVE my boomerang pillow and just can’t seem to sleep the same without it! and If I don’t get a good nights sleep I struggle through my day.
Thanks for the great feature – I had fun with the questions.
