Theres nothing more gorgeous than a relaxed and bathed baby wriggling around on the bed, ready for swaddling and (hopefully) a good sleep. And the feeling that in a few minutes, youll be free to have a quiet moment, glass of wine (or cup of tea) in hand and have a real conversation with a grown-up!
As baby squirms, a teaspoon of massage oil and a few learnt techniques can be a soothing end to a tiresome day. There are many oils that are appropriate for babys delicate skin but a scented oil can add to the experience and provide the nurturing and calming needed before bed-time.
Heres a recipe for a homemade baby massage oil;
1 tbspn apricot kernel or almond oil
½ tbspn olive or grapeseed oil
½ tbspn coconut oil (melt over warm heat if solid)
5 drops lavender essential oil
Add all ingredients into a small glass jar and shake before using.
Or if you dont want to buy all the ingredients, this super gentle baby massage oil from Handmade Emporium contains no nut oil and is available in scented and unscented versions. Its better to use handmade oils, as preservatives can be added to the most natural oil blend. And your baby will be as grateful for your effort as you’ll be after a good nights sleep!
